Community Events This Fall At The Queens Historical Society

The following is from the Queens Historical Society:

The dog days of summer are behind us and we’re headed full-steam into fall! To kick off the season, we’re having a Film Screening this weekend, followed by an Open House, and a Birthday Celebration for our very own Kingsland Homestead! We’re also preparing for our annual Holiday Historic House Tour, so keep a look out for the brochure in the next membership mailing and find out how to purchase tickets online at the bottom of this email.

Film Screening — Geraldine Ferraro: Paving the Way

Keeping with the Queens Historical Society’s theme this year of inspiring women, QHS will be screening a gripping 85-minute documentary on the life of trailblazer, Geraldine Ferraro. The film features her early childhood and years in public service-including her time as District Attorney here in Queens-through her campaign to be the first female Vice President of the United States.

$5 QHS Members, Students & Seniors; $8 General Admission

Walking Tour of Forest Hills with Adrienne Onofri

Take a guided tour of one of NYC’s most desirable residential neighborhoods with Adrienne Onofri–travel writer, licensed sightseeing guide and author. Sights on the tour include Forest Hill Gardens, historically significant locales of Forest Hills, along with landmarked buildings, abundant Tudor and Art Deco architecture, and gathering spots that have remained popular for generations in the community. In addition, the tour will visit places associated with local ethnic populations as well as those with a connection to various celebrities who’ve lived in Forest Hills — including author/activist Helen Keller. 28TH ANNUAL HOLIDAY HISTORIC HOUSE TOUR

Seven historic sites in Queens will be opening their decorated doors to celebrate the holiday season on Sunday December 6, 2015 from 12:30pm to 5:00pm. Come learn about these NYC Landmark houses and their unique histories!  Each site offers special activities, delicious refreshments, and a glimpse at what life was once like during the holidays at this fun-filled annual event. Tickets are on-sale now and can be purchased online at https://hhht2015.eventbrite.com or from the Queens Historical Society.
