Joe Brostek is 2nd VP of the Broadway-Flushing Homeowners’ Association and also a Trustee of the Queens Historical Society. He has just created an exhibit at the Society headquarters in the Landmarked Kingsland Homestead in close-by Weeping Beech Park in Flushing.

Entitled “Toys & Games from the Attic & Beyond!”, the exhibit is in rooms loaded with displays and panels describing the origins and histories of Legos, Frisbees, Matchbook Cars, Barbie Dolls, Rubik’s Cube, etc.

There are Star Wars collectables, Lionel trains, Hess Trucks and antique games. We thought it very appropriate to share this information with our members who might like to enjoy a nostalgic afternoon. (There are also many toys on loan from BFHA members.) Children and grandchildren will really love the exhibition!

The address: 143-35 37th Ave.

Museum hours: Tues., Sat. & Sun. 2:30 – 4:30 PM. There is a very modest admission donation. Limited street parking. Public transportation is suggested. Many buses stop at the corner of Northern & Parsons Boulevards – just one block away. A Municipal parking lot is within walking distance.

Website:  Queenshistoricalsociety.org
The exhibit will run through June 2017.

Here is a photo of Borough President Melinda Katz opening the exhibit and welcoming guests into the 230-year-old Homestead with a 150-year-old school bell. L-R, QHS President Patricia B. Sherwood, Borough President Melinda Katz, Joseph Brostek, Trustee/Curator and NYC Councilman Peter Koo.
